00:01:12: Heute reden wir über den Konzept des Peacebuilding Journalismus in eure Specialität in diesem

00:01:18: Kind des Journalismus.

00:01:19: Also, was bedeutet Peaceoriented Journalismus für dich?

00:01:24: Die klassische Definition des Peace Journalismus ist, wenn die Journalisten und Publikum

00:01:30: die Wahl der Worte und die Worte zu berichten, um nonviolente Worte zu verabschieden.

00:01:39: Und du bist primär auf die Konfliktreaktion der Libanon fokussiert.

00:01:45: Was ist das Ziel für den Peace Promoting Journalismus, für die Medien, dort zu spielen?

00:01:51: Natürlich ist es sehr schwierig, zu reden über die Peace in Libanon,

00:01:55: besonders diese Tage.

00:01:57: Aber ich denke, es ist immer das Fall.

00:01:59: Verabschieden Peace und die Ersichtung der Peace in einem konflikten, effektiven Land ist sehr schwierig.

00:02:06: Und natürlich, die Medien reflektieren, wie die Situation ist.

00:02:11: Die Medien in Libanon sind sehr verabschiedet und sehr politisch.

00:02:15: Und ich denke, es ist sehr schwierig, einen neuen Modell des Journalismus zu schaffen.

00:02:21: In diesen Situationen.

00:02:22: Aber das ist genau warum es auch gebraucht ist.

00:02:24: Wir müssen einen neuen Artikel für den Journalismus geben, um die Performance der Journalismus zu verbessern.

00:02:33: Hat die Situation in Libanon dich als du auf diesen Journalismus spezialisiert hast?

00:02:39: Oder wie kommt es, dass du die Repräsentation der Peace Journalismus bist?

00:02:44: Ich war natürlich persönlich auf die Situation in meinem Land.

00:02:51: Ich habe auch Journalismus studiert.

00:02:53: Ich war auch ein Aktivist seit einer sehr jungen Zeit in der Lande.

00:02:57: Ich war für die Peace und für die Humanität, für die Konflikteile.

00:03:02: Ich war also schon in der Gesellschaft in der Gesellschaft geïntet.

00:03:08: Ich hatte die Chance, den Journalismus zu treffen, bei Jake Lynch in Beirut.

00:03:13: Ich habe mich von Jake Lynch getragen.

00:03:17: Und das ist, was mich zu tun hat.

00:03:20: Ich habe mir gedacht, warum nicht diese Idee mehr in der Lande und in der Region sprennen?

00:03:25: Da wir es brauchen und da wir die Praxis des Peace-orientierten Journalismus nicht mehr lieben.

00:03:31: Ich dachte, ich könnte die Person, die diese Initiative starten,

00:03:37: und wissen, was Journalismus ist, als Freelancer als Journalist.

00:03:42: Und damit die Motivation, eine Veränderung in der Lande zu machen.

00:03:46: Das ist so, wie es startete.

00:03:48: Ich war natürlich der erste Generation nach der 50-jährigen Civil War in Lebanon.

00:03:54: Ich bin natürlich auch von meiner eigenen Identität und meinen eigenen Situationen geïntet.

00:04:00: Ich bin sehr motiviert, um eine Veränderung zu schaffen, die ich in meinem Leben dreamt.

00:04:06: Das ist so, wie die Geschichte startet.

00:04:08: Ich habe 2009 und zwei Jahre später habe ich mich für Mediastudien und junger Peace-Journalist in Lebanon georganisiert.

00:04:19: Es war sehr erfolgreich.

00:04:21: Ich war auch empfohlen, mehr Jobs zu organisieren.

00:04:25: Das ist so, wie es startete.

00:04:28: Und später habe ich die Mediasociation für Peace-Map,

00:04:32: die für Peace-Journalismus und Lebanon und die Medidisten beendet.

00:04:36: Und jetzt bist du in Bonn, hier in Tremini.

00:04:40: Ja, ich bin in Bonn ein paar Jahre lang gejagt,

00:04:44: um den Pistonalismus als Wissenschaftler zu studieren und meine PhD-Degree zu gewinnen.

00:04:49: Bevor du in Bonn kamst, führte du viel zu promotieren und zu introduzieren,

00:04:55: die Peace-Journalisten zu promotieren.

00:04:57: All over the world.

00:04:59: Wenn du über das Zeit denkst,

00:05:02: was sind die Unterschiede, die du mit den Pistonalisten zu tun hast,

00:05:09: und ob du sie oder nicht,

00:05:12: sind es die Unterschiede zwischen den Ländern?

00:05:16: Ich denke, dass ich jung bin und diese Motivation zu schaffen,

00:05:21: einen Veränderung und einen konflikten Land, wie in Lebanon,

00:05:25: mit den verschiedenen Ländern zu sharen und zu sharen,

00:05:32: die ich mit den jungen Journalisten in Lebanon mache,

00:05:35: durch meine Organisation.

00:05:37: Das war eine tolle Möglichkeit für mich,

00:05:39: auch von Journalisten, Aktivisten und anderen Menschen zu lernen,

00:05:42: die ich mitgegeben habe.

00:05:44: Ich war glücklich zu wissen,

00:05:46: dass Lebanon nicht der einzige Land, das von Konflikten zu schützen ist.

00:05:52: Und manchmal, wenn wir in einer bestimmten Region,

00:05:59: in einer bestimmten Region,

00:06:00: missen wir, dass es auch andere Storien gibt,

00:06:04: die nicht sehr ähnlich sind.

00:06:06: Durch meine Reise habe ich die Chance,

00:06:08: dass Konflikt ein Kind von Universal ist.

00:06:13: Es ist nicht nur über Lebanon oder andere Länder,

00:06:16: sondern es ist alles über die Plätze.

00:06:17: Wir brauchen den Peace-Journalisten,

00:06:20: um Konflikten in einer konstruktiven Weise zu repräsentieren.

00:06:23: Ich habe wirklich gefühlt,

00:06:25: dass es so viele andere Länder gibt,

00:06:27: die diesen Konzept auch brauchen.

00:06:28: Ich habe so viele Journalisten aus verschiedenen Belastungen

00:06:31: von sehr hoffenden,

00:06:33: und es war sehr optimistisch,

00:06:35: dass diese Art Journalisten wirklich ein Veränderung haben.

00:06:38: War es ein Land,

00:06:40: in dem man die Gefühle,

00:06:43: dass Peace-Orientalismus mehr vorgegeben ist,

00:06:47: als in anderen Ländern?

00:06:48: Eigentlich ist es immer mehr auf das Gesellschaft.

00:06:52: Wenn die Gesellschaft weniger prognose Konflikte ist,

00:06:55: und mehr stabil ist,

00:06:57: dann wäre es natürlich mehr auf dem Peace-Journalismus,

00:07:00: weil es für Journalisten und Medieninstitut less zähler ist,

00:07:05: um es zu praktizieren.

00:07:06: Aber wenn du eine Gesellschaft oder ein Land,

00:07:09: der mit seinen eigenen Versionen in der Schweiz,

00:07:13: zu befinden,

00:07:14: und du bist derjenige, der das Leben hat,

00:17:47: You served as a coach for the Media for Peace Fellows. Media for Peace Fellows are also part

00:17:54: of this podcast when they talk about their project and you have been a coach for them.

00:17:59: What moments or situations or experiences do you remember that really impressed you on that way?

00:18:07: What if has done so far? I had the pleasure to be the coach of the Media for Peace Fellows

00:18:15: in the last couple of years and it was really such a pleasure to work with them and to interact

00:18:22: and exchange ideas and conversations. And I was always impressed that they have this big will

00:18:30: to really present a piece-oriented information, a piece-oriented article. And I was also very

00:18:38: impressed that they were very open to feedback and to comments and they really wanted to have

00:18:45: an article that is perfectly oriented for peace. And I'm very happy to work with people that have

00:18:52: this attitude because I think this is what we need to actually reach peace journalism.

00:18:57: We need the willingness of people, their openness, their motivation, their devotion

00:19:02: for peace work, including journalism work. And I think I did find this with Media for Peace Fellows

00:19:09: and I'm very satisfied with this experience and very happy about the articles that have written.

00:19:15: What are the big challenges that are coming up for piece-oriented journalists like from the

00:19:23: What If or your own thing that you do with your workshops? What do you think are the big challenges

00:19:29: that are coming up? I think in general it's challenging to present the knowledge of

00:19:36: peace journalism, of training people on how to use it, how to apply this knowledge.

00:19:42: Peace journalism is an academic field, it's a sub-area of journalism studies and it's well

00:19:48: established in the academic world. But I think there is still a lot of challenges to apply

00:19:54: this school of journalism or this approach of this model and the actual journalism.

00:20:00: So we have to continuously bring this knowledge to media professionals through trainings,

00:20:09: through workshops, through conferences, because also I forgot probably to mention, but also at

00:20:13: MAP we did not only present trainings and workshops, but we also created this platform

00:20:19: through conferences, regional conferences, to bring together activists, the journalists,

00:20:24: the lawyers, the students, professors into the discussion of media for peace. So it's important

00:20:31: also for everybody to be involved in this discussion, for everybody to think together

00:20:36: how we can push the agenda of media for peace, how we can present our issues and our stories in a

00:20:42: more constructive way, and to change this conventional way of doing journalism. So this is

00:20:50: a challenge, this is a challenge to spread peace journalism, to promote its importance,

00:20:56: to prove its desirability and also its visibility. So those are big challenges, those are big

00:21:03: challenges, but of course I mean it's not impossible to do it and I mean we are doing it and I think

00:21:09: that many other people can do it and should do it and if we work together I think we can really

00:21:15: achieve a lot through peace journalism. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and being on this

00:21:55: You are part of The What If and if you have followed The What If, then you know that it started

00:22:01: a few years ago and in the meantime you have a real product, a website, you make

00:22:08: dialogues, everything goes with a prototype. If you look back, where did you get the

00:22:15: biggest transformation? Where did you actually change things a lot because you noticed that

00:22:23: oh, that's how it's going to go, or does it pay more attention to the peaceful journalism?

00:22:29: Since the Media for Peace Fellowship in October 2022, a lot has happened and in contrast to the

00:22:38: initial phase where the fellows really set up a scientific base and tried to validate this concept

00:22:46: from future-oriented dialogues and constructive journalism. Last year we really made a

00:22:54: big transformation. We were able to develop our dialogue format really strongly. In total, we have 23

00:23:01: dialogues with over 100 participants and also to over 15 peace and conflict-related topics in Afghanistan

00:23:08: and Lebanon. Originally, these dialogues were always in English, we have modeled them ourselves

00:23:15: and in the meantime, the dialogues are now on the local language site so that the participants can

00:23:21: express themselves much more openly. We have experts from the area of conflict mediation,

00:23:26: which take over moderation and also in terms of the topic, we are supported by local partners

00:23:33: like the Afghan Journalist Support Organization. And as a second step, we have also built a lot on our website,

00:23:40: it is updated and more focused on what the visitors want from the website.

00:23:45: And not only you have developed further, but also the whole world around you. So if you are

00:23:50: looking right now at the countries of Afghanistan and Lebanon, then of course there was a big, big

00:23:56: change as to what if there was the Lebanon in construction, then the whole war in Israel came,

00:24:04: where Lebanon was also affected, so a war country was created from this land, you can say,

00:24:10: which of course also influenced your work on the site with the peaceful-suffering journalism.

00:24:15: How was that there? What did that mean for you? Yes, of course, conflict situations can be changed

00:24:20: totally quickly and we have discussed a lot in the team whether and how we can

00:24:27: continue our work in a war situation at all and then we came to the conclusion that we

00:24:32: do not just want to leave the local population in the stitch, we have already built our first trust

00:24:37: with it and we do not just want to leave it as soon as it becomes a fire, but also in difficult

00:24:43: moments we want to strengthen the people's backs on site. Of course, it also stood in the room

00:24:48: whether we want to take our work into a new conflict country. But we already took the

00:24:54: lead in finding a way in Lebanon rather than preferring to lead our dialogue, for example

00:24:58: through dialogue with the diaspora or maybe if the situation calms down a little,

00:25:03: also with the local population or people from the peace formation, but to pay attention to the

00:25:09: needs of the local population and really paused the dialogue for a few months,

00:25:16: because people were taking care of other things there and had no mental capacity

00:25:22: to discuss social problems or the future of the country. But we still have

00:25:28: new opportunities for possible dialogue topics in this war situation. Many people

00:25:35: fled from the south of Lebanon to the north and came to contact people for the first time

00:25:41: who had completely different cultures and religious backgrounds and that could

00:25:47: also be a great opportunity to build up and trust in a future dialogue advantage.

00:25:52: And if you look at your work, how do you realize that it was successful or not successful?

00:26:01: Yes, the university team of the Federal Government has already started last year and supports us

00:26:07: with our success, also by analyzing dialogue and articles that have already been carried out.

00:26:13: And they receive our translated transcripts of the dialogue and article and then

00:26:20: conduct an in-house analysis where they look at how the topics discussed were talked about

00:26:28: and also what peace-saving factors can be found in communication. There is a small

00:26:36: survey to each dialogue that starts the feedback of the participants and the moderation,

00:26:40: but above all, it is a super important indicator, simply the positive feedback that we receive

00:26:46: from people who always look back at how important our role is in media landscapes,

00:26:52: which are characterized by censorship and which also hear local voices. And we will then

00:26:59: appreciate this safe discussion space very much, where you can still look critically.

00:27:05: And we collect this feedback and this year, which will be my focus, we will try to develop

00:27:12: a more comprehensive model, how you can measure the effects and success of our concept

00:27:20: and then consider which methods and values we want to see, how our activities are currently

00:27:29: connected with our planned effect. Yes, we also consider how we can use social media to

00:27:35: understand the changes of local opinion and voice in the conflict region better.

00:27:41: You just mentioned the feedback. Is there any feedback or any story,

00:27:47: such a concrete one, that has shown you something, hey, that has an impact, that has affected something?

00:27:55: Yes, I actually think our two dialogues on the topic "Tayuni" are totally impressive.

00:28:01: What is "Tayuni"?

00:28:03: "Tayuni" is a circular traffic in Beirut in Lebanon and that is why it is a good example

00:28:10: because the district traffic or the region around it has a very negative call.

00:28:16: There the regular shooting between Christians and Shiites comes from these neighboring villages.

00:28:23: The topic came up for us because we were asked how a peaceful coexistence could be around

00:28:29: this "Tayuni" circular traffic. And we organized two dialogues there,

00:28:35: "Om halt Anwohner", "Auch die lokale Stadtverwaltung", "Verschiedne Repräsentaten"

00:28:40: of this conflict parties and also an initiative that worked in a somewhat similar

00:28:45: "Entripoli" in a dialogue to bring together. And these two dialogues were found online

00:28:52: and in Rabestadt. And it was very impressive because the participants noticed that

00:28:57: actually their city ​​vittles are not so very split as it is outside.

00:29:03: And that they actually have a lot of commonalities and want to continue to work on it,

00:29:08: to come back together. And with the help of our constructive and also future-oriented

00:29:15: moderation, it is so to speak successful that the participants had the idea that they want

00:29:21: to continue the dialogue in person because they felt that he had brought him so much.

00:29:26: And actually they only need 300 dollars to pay a generator so that people

00:29:32: can meet in person from the surrounding districts.

00:29:36: You mentioned this future orientation. I would put something into the show notes where

00:29:41: this approach was explained more precisely. The following is about crisis, there is a

00:29:46: better name, there is Afghanistan, there are also conflict lines where opinions are

00:29:51: colliding and also in the German-speaking space this constructive journalism is

00:29:57: often called. You also try to put it forward. You deal a lot with

00:30:03: peaceful journalism. What do you think? What does the development look like in the

00:30:07: next few years? So for you as well as for the relevance of journalism?

00:30:13: Yes, I think and hope that the constructive and peaceful journalism

00:30:19: that wins the range, that more journalists are promoted in this form of journalism,

00:30:26: that more networks are built up and also a public that this form of journalism is

00:30:32: also an alternative or at least as an supplement to the conventional journalism.

00:30:38: I also put everything through our project that through platforms like the What if,

00:30:43: so really a diverse and inclusive image of conflicts can arise and that

00:30:48: discourse spaces are created in which you can really solve conflicts constructively.

00:30:53: I am also pretty sure that AI and social media are also a closer collaboration in

00:30:59: more ways, peace and conflict studies, but also NGOs that work really in

00:31:03: peace education, can contribute to making conflicts better understood and that

00:31:09: we can also develop more targeted journalistic formats that can contribute to peace.

00:31:15: What would you advise journalists or media houses to do now,

00:31:20: to start, to listen to them now, if they want to develop more in these directions,

00:31:26: if they want to be active, how can they start?

00:31:30: Maybe as the most important statement, I will connect you.

00:31:33: We have already recognized that a journalist needs more perspectives and also

00:31:38: context to offer and to create additional conflicts.

00:31:42: And you can see very strongly the community around the constructive and

00:31:46: peaceful journalism that is constantly growing, if it is still relatively small.

00:31:52: And the people who work in this area are incredibly open and passionate and we

00:31:57: always notice it on conferences or other events.

00:32:00: You get so easily into the conversation and you find new journalists or journalists

00:32:05: or media houses as always connecting tips or ideas on how to work together.
